Big airports have terminals that are not next to each other. Not checking which one before leaving home adds a problem that had no business showing up that morning.
Gate Changed and Nobody Noticed
Gates move and the update sits in the app that nobody checked again after printing the boarding pass. Walking confidently to the wrong gate and finding out late is a bad version of a familiar story.
Phone Dead at the Worst Time
Boarding pass gone, notifications gone, the airline app gone. Charging the phone before leaving or keeping a small power bank in the bag costs almost nothing and saves a lot.
Sat Down for Food and Lost Track
Airport restaurants slow time down in a specific way. Comfortable seat, decent food, no urgency felt until the gate is suddenly closing and the terminal is a ten minute walk away.
Checked Bag Line Was Longer Than Planned
Bag drop queues on busy mornings move slowly. Not building that into the arrival time means the rest of the airport timeline gets squeezed in ways that are hard to recover from.
Passport Was Buried Somewhere
Three minutes digging through a bag at the document check is three minutes that belonged at the gate. Keeping it accessible before joining any queue is genuinely worth doing every single time.
Bought Too Much at Duty Free
Extra bags slow everything down. Sometimes they create a problem at the gate too when the carry on allowance is already tight. Neither issue helps when boarding is already wrapping up.
Mixed Up Boarding and Departure Time
These are not the same number. The gate closes before the listed departure time, sometimes ten to fifteen minutes before. Arriving at departure time is arriving after the door is already shut.
Headphones In During Final Call
Last call announcements happen and get completely missed by anyone sitting in a cafe tuned out. Staying aware of what is being said over the terminal speakers is just part of being in an airport.
